Telegram is not just a messenger for communication these days. Millions of users and companies run channels and chats here. Not all of them manage to achieve success, attract the target audience and start making money on their projects.

Telemetr specialists conducted a study and interviewed Telegram channel administrators to find out:

how they attract and engage with subscribers;

what principles are followed in their work;

and how channels are monetized.

The study involved 11,348 Telegram channel admins. Of these, 6,020 monetize physicians email database their channel, and 5,328 do not. Here are the results we got.

Who are they – Telegram channel administrators?
Most professions that involve running social networks are usually dominated by women. But not in Telegram. The study found that there are more male channel admins than female ones: 66.3% versus 33.7%.

The main age of male admins who monetize their channel is from 18 to 24 years old. However, among those who do not earn money on Telegram channels, the age group of men from 31 to 40 years old prevails.

The situation with women seems more stable. In both groups, the age group from 31 to 40 years is in the lead.

The majority of respondents (27.2%) live in Moscow and the Moscow region. Representatives of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region among the respondents were 8%.

Almost half of the surveyed admins live in Russia (43.5%), 2.5% of respondents were residents of Belarus, 1.4% - Kazakhstan. Admins from China, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Thailand and other countries also took part in the survey.

Most channel admins are freelancers or employed. Among those who monetize their channels, freelancers accounted for 32.8%; among those who do not earn money in Telegram, the share of freelancers was 27.9%.
