Advertising executive Daniel Barbará, one of the most important media professionals in the history of Brazilian advertising, died on Thursday, the 26th, due to complications from a liver transplant surgery performed in Fortaleza, Ceará. Barbará was married to advertising executive Maria Lucia Cucci, the current media director of the Tudo agency.
Barbara was born on February 21, 1947, in Rio de Janeiro. In 1966, she enrolled in the veterinary school at the Universidade Federal Fluminense, but did not complete it. She started working in the advertising market at Record Propaganda in the 1960s. In the early 1970s, she was hired by Altino de Barros to work at the Rio de Janeiro office of McCann-Erickson. Barbará played a decisive role in several market entities. In 1996, she became president of the Circulation Verification Institute (IVC). She was president of the São Paulo Media Group for three terms, from 1994 to 1996, and from 1998 to 2002. She was vice-president of the Brazilian Association of Advertising Agencies (ABAP) from 2003 to 2005. In 2000, Barbará represented Brazil on the jury of the Media Lions at the Cannes Film Festival.
