The Tourism White Paper also introduces a variety of examples of local initiatives for "experience consumption." Below are some excerpts from these examples.

Resort wedding in Okinawa Prefecture
Okinawa Prefecture has been promoting destination weddings to inbound tourists from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea as a key market, and 2,066 weddings were held there in 2017. Destination weddings bring in a large number of guests, which has a large economic impact.
By nationality and region, the top three are Hong Kong (1,218 couples), Taiwan (596 couples), China (164 couples), and Korea (49 couples).
The reason for their popularity is said to be the growing popularity of "photo weddings," where wedding ceremonies are held in chapels with ocean views, and photos are taken at locations such as the sea and castle ruins of Okinawa.
Destination weddings for foreign tourists are increasing year by year, with a total of 41,178 people attending in 2017, and the average spending per person also tending to be high at 98,000 yen.

Ama hut experience in Ise-Shima

The "Cycle Tourism" initiative (Setouchi Shimanami Kaido), which aims to enjoy the region's nature, food, hot springs and other tourist resources with all five senses while riding a bicycle, has been highly praised for revitalizing the region and promoting long-stay tourism.
The greatest attraction of the "Setouchi Shimanami Kaido" is that it is a 59.4km route connecting Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture and Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, where you can cycle around the scenic Geiyo Islands that float in the Seto Inland Sea, which has been designated as a national park.
