Study presents solutions for energy transition

Among others, aspects of social inclusion and gender equity were considered, which contributed to discussions on regulatory measures for the national electricity system.

In December 2019, the Getulio Vargas Foundation and Adam Smith International Limited (ASI) signed a contract with the Prosperity Fund, an investment fund managed at the time by the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the British government. The purpose was to prepare studies vp media email database on topics related to the energy transition and the low-carbon economy in Brazil. Among other aspects, social inclusion and gender equality were considered, which contributed to discussions on regulatory measures for the national electricity system.

These studies led to innovative contributions that proposed regulatory measures mainly for the management of the electrical system in Brazil, including aspects, impacts and solutions for the low-income population linked to this market. Considering the success of the studies developed and the new horizons that the work carried out pointed out, the material presents the main results obtained by FGV within the scope of the Brazil Energy Programme (BEP).

FGV Projetos, FGV's Technical Advisory unit, was responsible for coordinating the activities that brought together different units of the Institution: Center for Energy Studies (FGV Energia), Center for Studies in Regulation and Infrastructure (FGV CERI), Center for Agribusiness Studies (FGV Agro), Center for Studies in Sustainability (FGVces) and FGV Europe, FGV's international representation office.

For Maurício Gouvêa, leader of the Project Management Office (PMO) at FGV Projetos and coordinator of FGV Projetos at BEP, “The studies stood out for the unique way in which they addressed the issue of energy transition in Brazil, especially in the integration of aspects related to GESI (the acronym in English for the term “gender equality and social inclusion”) into the analyses developed. Furthermore, one of the most relevant characteristics of this project was to unite different units of FGV in order to meet the proposed challenge, with FGV Projetos acting as the coordinator and manager of the studies carried out.”
