Google expands Search Live: Interactive search now also possible via video

Post by Sumona1030 »

Google is adding video input to its "Search Live" search function in AI Mode for the first time. Users can interact with the search engine using their smartphone's camera and ask questions about what they're currently viewing. The video feature is enabled by the integration of Google Lens and technology from Project Astra . AI Mode recognizes visual content in real time, analyzes it contextually, and delivers relevant search results – directly in conversation with the AI. The new video feature is initially available in the US and is aimed at Google Search Labs participants.

In addition to video input, Google offers further innovations in AI Mode:
Users can now upload PDF documents and ask latvia cell phone database questions about their content. The AI analyzes the files and provides enriched answers with relevant web resources. Google is also introducing a "Canvas" feature that allows learning and project plans to be dynamically organized across multiple sessions. With the integration of Google Lens in Chrome, the content of websites or PDFs can be analyzed directly while browsing, allowing users to ask questions immediately.

Instagram limits live streaming to accounts with at least 1,000 followers
Instagram has tightened its requirements for live streams:

Effective immediately, only public accounts with at least 1,000 followers can use the live feature – a requirement already familiar from TikTok. This change affects many smaller creators and will be communicated to them directly via a pop-up in the app. No official reason for the new hurdle has been given. However, it is suspected that Instagram wants to increase the quality and relevance of live streams by only allowing creators with a certain reach. Live streams are considered an effective way to strengthen the bond with existing followers.

The new regulation could anger smaller groups of users and possibly push them to alternatives such as Twitch or YouTube – platforms that have similar restrictions but sometimes offer lower barriers to entry.

Google recommends consistent redirects for users and search engines
Google recommends not distinguishing between user and Google versions of URL redirects. This was prompted by a discussion on Bluesky in which a user planned special redirects with user hints, but wanted to show the search engine different target URLs. John Müller warned against this, as different redirects create unnecessary complexity and can lead to errors. Instead, he recommends using so-called hashed URLs (e.g., example.com/page#info). These are ignored by Google but can be used by the browser, for example, to display hints for users. Consistent redirect behavior is particularly important during website migrations. Uniform redirects ensure better indexing and avoid SEO problems.
