Among Southeast Asian countries, the proportion of cross-border e-commerce in the e-commerce market is high in Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.
Although the e-commerce market size in each of these three countries is about 2 billion dollars (approximately 215.9 billion yen), the cross-border e-commerce market size is high in Malaysia at 54%, Thailand at 38%, and Singapore at 23%.
In terms of what cross-border e-commerce sites are used, the most popular sites in Malaysia are Alibaba Group's AliExpress, Taobao, and Lazada.
In Thailand, products from Tmall.com and Taobao can now be purchased through Lazada.
In addition, Shoppee has announced a collaboration with DHL to improve delivery from China to Thailand, and it is likely that purchases of Chinese products will become more active in the future.
In Singapore, there is a tax exemption for cross-border e-commerce purchases of goods under 400 Singapore dollars, and due to cultural and linguistic diversity, consumers have a low psychological barrier to purchasing from sites in other countries, so it is believed that they are using cross-border e-commerce in search of better products.
Cross-border e-commerce sites used in Singapore include Lazada and Qoo10.
In addition, the most popular items purchased in Singapore and Malaysia are apparel and accessories, while toys and gifts are the top selling items in Thailand.
