In the last five years, Portugal has witnessed a new Internet phenomenon: YouTubers . Who are they?

The answer is simple: they are young people in their 20s who make money from the videos they make and post on the Internet. Raised in front of a computer, with access to a simple video camera, most of these YouTubers started recording when they were still in high school. In fact, some of them are still in high school.

Locked in their room, away from their parents' critical eyes, and almost always because they have “nothing else to do”, they combine business with pleasure. Just put the camera on to record and talk about a wide range of topics. Originality is south africa email list an ingredient that cannot be missing if you want to be successful. So, YouTube hosts the videos and puts us in touch with the whole world.

In this post, we present some of the most successful cases in Portugal.

Young Portuguese Youtubers: 7 success stories
Francisco Soares

Francisco Soares, known on YouTube as Kiko Is Hot , is 20 years old and known for his unique style. Thanks to YouTube, he has already left his mother's house in Cascais and now lives in an apartment in Sintra. He finished high school and stopped there, believing that it is out here that he can have unique experiences that he would never receive at school.
Using irony and sarcasm as weapons (and some swear words that he is not ashamed to use), Kiko Is Hot can already see on his CV a television program on TVI and some appearances on Curto Circuito , a program aimed at young people, broadcast on SIC Radical .

Today she also does fashion tutorials, sponsored by clothing and makeup brands. The video adventure has already earned him more than 82 thousand subscribers (non-paying) and eight million visits.

Kiko Is Hot , like 10 other YouTubers, now has a signed contract with WTF – a NOS service with youth rates – and makes regular videos to promote the brand. He also appeared in the film Ruas Rivais , a national project produced by an essentially young team that features YouTubers as protagonists and the special participation of figures such as Rui Unas, João Manzarra, Rui Pego and Fernando Alvim.

Ruben Valle

Ruben Valle , 20 years old, is also a YouTuber , although he prefers to define himself as an actor and film student . The truth is that his feature film, Discípulo , already has more than 200 thousand views on YouTube .
It was this film – with a budget bordering on zero – that served as inspiration for the film Ruas Rivais , a sort of sequel set in Sintra, which tells the story of a young man who is bullied by a gang.

Nurb

When writing the script, Ruben Vallle thought about inviting YouTubers to play the main roles in his film and they accepted without hesitation. Among them is Nurb (whose real name is Bruno Leça), a 21-year-old who is often compared to a Bruno Nogueira from the younger generation.
On YouTube , his improvised style has already earned him 169 thousand subscribers, making him one of the most successful on the platform. To date, he has had the honor of appearing in a sketch with Ricardo Araújo Pereira and was requested by MegaHits radio by some television channels, such as Canal Q and SIC Radical .

Paulo Sousa

At 23 years old, Paulo Sousa is finishing his master's degree in Pre-School Education and 1st Cycle of Basic Education and covers songs on YouTube . For some time now, Paulo has realized that everything is connected and that a virtual star has to expand to other social networks, in order to get closer to his fans. In fact, many of his videos are covers of songs that users ask him to record. Still, he maintains his integrity and says he has never sung anything he didn't like.
Meanwhile, he gave around 300 shows, participated in SIC 's Fator X program and earned close to 2 thousand euros from advertising his content. It's no coincidence that you feel obliged to publish a new song at least once a month.

Soraia Carries

Soraia Carrega ’s success began when she published the video “Fui barrada”. The YouTuber , also known as Djubsu , recorded an outraged video when she was barred from a nightclub in Lisbon because of her afro hair. The story's controversy, associated with the 21-year-old's style, caused the video to reach hundreds of views in just a few hours.
When planning the video, Soraia didn't expect as much buzz as she got, but when she woke up the next day, she saw her face everywhere. She never lost her popularity again and even partnered with YouTube .

Ricardo Esteves

Ricardo Esteves ' videos are about video games. Basically, the young man films himself playing, while commenting in real time on what is happening. He also makes analyzes and comparisons, especially of the games that a brand sends you, so that you can talk about them. He doesn't receive any payment for playing, but the partnership he signed with YouTube has already allowed him to put his studies aside and live almost exclusively from the videos he makes.
For every 100 thousand views, Ricardo receives around R$100. Posts are almost daily and recording is easy: just turn on the microphone and let things flow, while pressing the keys and playing. Editing is limited to cuts and adding background music. With the money he earned, he invested in a good microphone, connection cables and a better computer.

Thomas Nunes

There are more than 28 thousand followers wanting to see and hear the meaningless recordings of Tomás Nunes , an 18-year-old young man who is on YouTube with the channel Im The Pakistan Man . Always wearing a brimmed hat – which is already part of his identity – this young man lives in Setúbal and is finishing high school.
His videos are about everything and anything, and they have in common that they are made for no reason, without any social media or editing. He doesn't have a reason for his vlogs, but people find them funny and keep watching.
