Claudia Plattner new BSI President

Claudia Plattner will take over as head of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) on July 1, 2023.
On the inauguration of the new BSI President, Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser said:
"The threat level in the area of cyber security remains high. We are also experiencing a turning point for internal security due to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences. Cyber security is therefore a top priority. The BSI, as the federal cyber security authority, plays a central role in this. I am therefore very pleased that Claudia Plattner, an experienced and internationally well-connected IT security expert, is now at the helm of the BSI. With her move to the BSI, a woman will be the first to become president of a security authority in the area of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. This is also a strong signal and a great gain.

It is with great respect that I take on my new role as BSI President and I look forward to working on this task together with a strong team."
The mathematician, who studied at the Technical University of Darmstadt and Tulane University in the USA, has been working in the IT sector for almost two decades . Since mid-2021, Claudia Plattner has been Director General for Information Systems at the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt and is thus responsible for cybersecurity and the management of all digitization processes as well as other key strategic issues at the ECB and the Eurosystem/European System of Central Banks (ESCB). Prior to this, Claudia Plattner was Chief Information Officer at DB Systel GmbH, Frankfurt, since 2017, heading the department responsible for the digitization and modernization of Deutsche Bahn's internal IT system.
