How to Integrate Schema Markup and Get Rich Snippets on Your WordPress Site
Have you ever come across a Google result that includes a star review? This bit of additional information is called a rich snippet , and the code used to tell the search engine to find that information is called schema markup (or structured data). When you add schema markup to WordPress, you can increase the chances of your site getting rich, compelling results!

Although structured data does not directly affect ranking (Google has always stated this, even very recently, with the words of its frontend John Mueller)

“We don't use it as a quality factor, so it's not like we would say that this uruguay phone number data has Schema markup, therefore it's a better site.”
—John Mueller

rich snippets (single results in Google SERPs that have more visual elements) are certainly (and also statistically) more attractive than traditional ones and this allows you to improve the CTR (Click Through Rate), or the amount of clicks per number of times that snippet is published by Google. It's not bad if out of 100 views 40 people click instead of 25, don't you think?

In this post, we’ll dive into how schema markup works, then show you how to add schema markup to WordPress using a plugin.

What do schema markup and rich snippets look like?
Schema markup is a behind-the-scenes code that you add to your WordPress site . Internet users will never see it, but search engines like Google use it to better understand your content and add rich snippets like these to their results:

What a rich snippet looks like
Stars aren't the only rich snippets you might see in Google results. You might also see, as in the example below, a recipe search result with the number of reviews, calories, and time to complete the dish:

Depending on the type of content you have, you will add different structured data. Here are the most common types of structured data:

People
Products
Reviews
Recipes
Software Applications
Events
Video
Articles
Local businesses
Books

Step 2: Set up and add structured data to WordPress
Technically, the schema markup functionality is already added to your WordPress site once you activate the plugin. However, you can configure what is displayed. After that, each post or page you create will require you to specify whether you want to show schema markup in search results.

On the Rich Snippets page, you will see a configuration tab where all the schema markup types are displayed.
