Google Consent Mode: Difference Basic & Advanced

In November last year, Google Consent Mode was split into two versions. While there was previously only one Google Consent Mode, there is now a basic version (called Google Consent Mode v2 Basic) and an advanced version called Google Consent Mode v2 Advanced. The term “v2” in the name already indicates that this is the second, further developed version of Google Consent Mode.
The two variants differ in the following points:
– In Google Consent Basic mode , no information is sent to Google if users reject tracking. No event modeling is used here.
– In Google Consent Mode Advanced, basic information (“pings”) is sent to Google when users reject tracking. This requires configuration of all tags in Google Tag Manager.
Google's naming is a little unfortunate here. The "Google sweden whatsapp resource Consent Mode Advanced" already existed in version 1. It was simply the default setting. The Advanced mode is therefore the former standard mode. The Basic Mode of Google Consent Mode v2 has now been added as a new option that comes with fewer functions.
Since both modes are fundamentally different, you have to ask yourself whether you want to participate in Google's event modeling. This is only available in the advanced version. If you do not want to participate in event modeling and do not want to use modeled conversions, you should select the basic mode on your website. Setting it up with the Google Tag Manager is explained later in the article. If advertising is placed via Google Ads or if extended conversion tracking is generally used on your website, you cannot avoid the advanced version of Google Consent Mode. We recommend that all websites that use technologies such as Google Ads or Google Analytics 4 use Google Consent Mode v2 Advanced.
