Yesterday, the French company also raised the curtain on its new major language model, Mistral Large , which apparently plays in the same league as OpenAI's GPT-4, Anthropic's Claude 2 and Google's Gemini Pro and will soon be available on Azure, Microsoft's cloud computing platform.
This is not the first time that Mistral AI technology has found its way into a cloud computing provider. Before announcing its agreement with Microsoft, the French company had also announced collaborations with Amazon and Google.
When it launched in japan number screening spring last year, Mistral AI managed to attract large sums of money from investors , giving the company a multi-billion dollar valuation just months after its founding.
The technology developed by Mistral AI is also open source , meaning the French startup makes key components of its artificial intelligence models public. This is in sharp contrast to the approach taken by companies such as OpenAI, which jealously guards the components of its AI models.
The foundations of OpenAI were laid by three researchers previously associated with Google and Meta : Arthur Mensch (CEO), Guillaume Lample (chief scientist) and Timothee Lacroix (chief technology officer).
When the European Union (EU) was drafting the final version of its Artificial Intelligence Law last fall , Mistral AI rebelled against Brussels’ attempt to impose restrictions on the foundational models that power generative AI systems . Arthur Mensch, CEO of the French startup, said at the time that EU regulation would clip the wings of innovation at companies based in the community bloc.
