In its native United States, Instagram has been in the eye of the storm for some time due to the laxity of its usage policies for young people , who are supposedly left in the lurch in order to fill its coffers to the rafters . However, the Meta subsidiary seems willing to make amends and has pulled out of its hat a new function to filter content of a particularly sensitive nature and prevent it from reaching the eyes of users under 16 years of age.

Instagram's sensitive content control has three different options: "More", "Standard" and "Less". From now on, all accounts of users under 16 years of age will have the "Standard" control set by default.
