Twitter/X vs WeChat: Opportunities and Threats for the Western World

A few months ago, we witnessed the rebranding of the social network Twitter, which lost its typical blue bird and turned into a black X. This is another planned step by its owner, who has big plans for this platform and very often refers to the Chinese WeChat in this context, which Elon Musk wants to approach with his X and essentially build its Western alternative.

Twitter (now X) and WeChat are two different platforms with completely different features, target groups and geographical reach. WeChat, which is operated by Tencent, is popular in China and has a wide range of functions. Users use it as a social network, send messages, pay bills, purchases, energy, flights… Companies use it to manage communication or trade.

No similar platform that would combine all of the above exists in the West (yet). But this is saudi arabia phone number data not a completely new idea that Elon Musk would have come up with first. The issue of the so-called "Everything" application has been addressed before by, for example, Microsoft.

The question is whether a similar platform has any chance of succeeding in our (Western) market?

Elon Musk sees WeChat as his goal, which he would like X to at least get closer to. His goal is for it to become as indispensable and useful in the lives of ordinary people as the aforementioned Chinese platform. Which is a plan that you can boldly embark on if you have enough capital that you are willing to invest in development and subsequent implementation and interaction with users. But it is also necessary to take into account other factors that experts point out and which may contribute to potential failure or difficulty.

WeChat has over 1.2 billion users who are very active on it and spend most of their time there. And this is precisely because it solves everything they need for everyday functioning and entertainment on one platform. Given its scale, number of features and non-existent alternative, absence on this platform is equal to digital death, both for individuals and for companies. And Elon Musk would like the rebranded Twitter to be just as indispensable in the West.
