Complete isolation is not the most effective way to restore social energy, scientists from Oregon State University have found. More beneficial is rest without social interaction but surrounded by people, such as reading in a cafe.
Scientists have studied methods for restoring social energy — the totality of a person’s ability and desire for social interaction. Most often, it is described as a social battery that can be fully or partially charged (then a person is open to communication) or discharged (there is no desire or strength to interact with society).
The study's authors divided loneliness into two levels: basic (lack of social overseas chinese in europe data interactions) and complete (isolation from other people and media/technology).As scientists explain, there is a generally accepted theory that social interaction helps build and strengthen social connections, but reduces the battery charge, while being alone restores the charge, but does not help in building connections.
It turns out that taking a walk alone in the woods or relaxing in a secluded cabin will be less effective in restoring energy than going to the movies alone."Partial solitude is more likely to restore energy and maintain a sense of connection with others," explains study co-author Morgan Ross.
The results obtained were, on average, true for both extroverts and introverts. The scientists also found thattotal solitude was less harmful to people who genuinely enjoyed it"If you have a positive attitude towards solitude, then such a break will help you feel better. But if you isolate yourself because you don't want to talk to people, then it will probably make you feel even worse," the authors explain.
