A Spanish app helps neutralize our carbon footprint

“Since 1950, our civilization has released more than 335 billion tons of CO2 and cut down more than 8 million km2 of tropical forests. It is a fact that greenhouse gas emissions, together with massive and continuous deforestation, have caused climate change. And it is also a fact that climate change is the biggest problem facing human beings.”

These are the premises that motivated the software engineer from Valladolid, Diego Sanz Prieto, together with a rcs data morocco of professionals, passionate about sustainability and the environment, to develop “ Reforestum ”, an app that allows you to create your own forest.

How does it work? With just a few clicks and starting at a very affordable price, the app allows you to plan and develop a personal forest in available locations. This way, each of us can manage, follow through satellite images, expand or even give away our green initiative to whomever we want.

Furthermore, Reforestum allows us to measure the carbon footprint of our daily activities, offering the possibility of transforming these emissions into “carbon neutral” emissions, developing a “tailor-made” forest that restores balance with the environment and promotes the sustainability of our activities.

Although it is an international team, the developers of Reforestum have chosen Spain as the site to begin their reforestation and have chosen a 4.6 hectare plot of land near the “Picos de Europa” natural park to start their project.

There, the land will be prepared and approximately 1,100 trees per hectare will be planted with native species: 50% pines, 30% oaks and 20% with other selections.
